SECTION 4 – Torque Recommendations

Sealastic™ Fittings for natural gas as a standard are provided with a bottoming nut design denoted with an “M” designation at the beginning of the part number. This means that no measurement of torque or turns is required. Tighten the nut to a positive stop (metal-to-metal) with the shoulder of the fitting. In cases where bottoming nuts are not provided use the following torque recommendations:

            IPS Size Wrench Size
            ½” 14"
            ¾” 14"
            1" 16"
            1 ¼” 18"
            1 ½” 24"
            2" 24"

In each case a pull of approximately 75 lbs. should be applied to the end of the wrench. When pipe movement out of the coupling or fitting may occur, proper anchorage of the pipe must be provided.
